Jarry 3-6 4-3 Norrie*
Jarry is beginning to pull off some real cracking shots as this set becomes more and more tense, but Norrie does not seem too concerned.
Perhaps he should be? He needs to take this game by the scruff of the neck and finish it off, but instead appears content to let Jarry off the hook on his serve more often than not.
Kartal 6-7 4-6 Pavlyuchenkova
Game, set and match. And that’s the end of the British women singles challenge for 2025.
In the end, Pavlyuchenkova deserves to go through, too.
Her serve held up when it mattered, although Kartal desperately scrambled to try to keep every point alive.
As for THAT line call in the opening set – questions really will have to be asked, and answered.
Kartal walked slowly to the net as her stretch to a thumping forehand at match point proved to no avail.
But this has been the best Grand Slam run of Kartal’s career, worth £240,000 to boot, and see her rise inside the top 50 for the first time.
She deserved the standing ovation. But it is Pavlyuchenkova who will be in the last eight.
Jarry* 3-6 3-3 Norrie
Wow, that was a close one. At 40-30 down and in danger of being broken in a crucial game, Norrie pulled it back to level it up. Any mistake now could be critical.
Kartal 6-7 4-5 Pavlyuchenkova*
Courage under fire – and Pavlyuchenkova will have to win it on her own serve.
An errant forehand from Kartal puts her under pressure at 30-30 but she responds and a searing forehand extends the match.
