From Rob Maul at St Mary’s

Youri Tielemans is one of Aston Villa’s most creative and decisive players and it was ball over the top that found Marcus Rashford inside the first minute (the Marcus Rashford shot was blocked by Southampton defender Jan Bednarek).

Yet he took a whack on his ankle and it will be interesting to see if he can last the pace.

Villa fans are in good voice here. Southampton have had one decent chance in the first half so far but Emiliano Martinez saved from Cameron Archer on 16 minutes.

From Ian Winrow at the Amex

One of the clearest handballs you’ll see all season yet referee Darren Bond still watched countless replays before awarding the penalty.

Leicester had started to work their way into the game before Joao Pedro’s penalty – now the question is how they respond.

From Graeme Bryce at the City Ground

Forest were greeted by three huge banners in the Trent End before kick-off.

The main one was an image of Nuno Espirito Santo dressed as a magician surrounded by a deck of playing cards.

Underneath two banners said simply: “Nottingham Forest are magic.”

But there’s been precious little magic at the City Ground so far.

Everton have bossed possession and Matz Sels has made saves from Iliman Ndiaye and James Garner, while Jordan Pickford easily gathered a Jota Silva attempt.

But there are no signs of anyone pulling a rabbit out of a hat yet!

GOAL! Brighton 1-0 Leicester

31. Brighton finally have their noses in front at the Amex thanks to a Joao Pedro penalty.

It took an age for it to be awarded, mind you, with VAR eventually deciding that Conor Coady had clearly handled Simon Adingra’s shot.

The wait didn’t deter Joao Pedro. The Brazilian cooly stepped up, sent Mads Hermansen the wrong way, and rolled the ball into the bottom left corner.

Nott’m Forest 0-0 Everton

24. And on the subject of players coming back to haunt their former clubs, James Garner has just gone close for Everton at the City Ground.

A clever reverse pass from Jack Harrison put the midfielder in, and his strike across goal from an acute angle was pushed out by Matz Sels.

Southampton 0-0 Aston Villa

19. Aston Villa, unsurprisingly, have dominated the early proceedings on the south coast, but were nearly haunted moments ago by one of their former players.

Cameron Archer, who made the move between the clubs at the start of the season, stole in down the right and saw his strike across goal pushed out by Emiliano Martinez.
