‘Give him nightmares’

Rio Ferdinand has had his say on Viktor Gyokeres’ rift with Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokeres has threatened to go on strike as he claims they have upped their price tag amid interest from Man Utd and Arsenal.

He told talkSPORT: “I would be giving [Sporting president] Frederico Varandas nightmares until we had a deal for him to let me go. I did that at Leeds. I heard that Man Utd were interested in me and I knew Leeds had to let me go.

“I went to the chairman’s office and said to him: ‘Listen, I know you need to sell me, we’re not going to haggle over a few million here or there. Make a deal’.

“I was there for hours waiting and he finally did the deal.

“I’ll tell you what, I would be in his [Varandas] office and he wouldn’t be able to leave.

“I would be in his bed, in the front bedroom, in the kitchen. He wouldn’t be able to get me out of his sight.”

Monaco in Pogba talks

Monaco are in advanced talks with Paul Pogba, according to Sky Sports.

The former Manchester United midfielder has been offered a two-year contract by the French side.

Pogba has had contact from Saudi Arabia and MLS clubs, but he supposedly wants to remain in Europe.

The 32-year-old World Cup winner has not played since November 2024 when he was hit with a doping ban, which he has served.

Gyokeres feud explained

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has clarified the disagreement between Sporting Lisbon and Viktor Gyokeres.

The Man Utd and Arsenal target claims a gentleman’s agreement was struck with the Portuguese side for him to leave for £50m with a further £8m in add-ons this summer.

Sporting are now holding out for more and Gyokeres has threatened to go on strike.

The club’s president Frederico Varandas furiously hit back, saying he won’t be bullied by “threats and blackmail”.

Romano claims Gyokeres’ agents and Sporting’s former director Hugo Viana did agree to sell him for the £58m package.

But as Viana has departed for Man City, Varandas has a different position.
