A PROFESSIONAL footballer has admitted that he was involved in a drug smuggling plot worth £600,000.

The celebrity was arrested at London Stansted Airport with over 60kg of cannabis in his suitcases.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, 34, was arrested on September 2 and was promptly sacked from Greenock Morton.

The star had been returning from Thailand when he was caught at the airport.

He will be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court in Essex at a later date.

He pleaded guilty to the offence in May, but reporting restrictions on the case have only just been lifted.

Prosecutor David Josse KC announced that, following a “very thorough investigation” by the National Crime Agency (NCA), the charges against two other people have been dropped.

Rosie Rowland, 28, and Yasmin Piotrowska, 33, sobbed as they were allowed to leave the dock.

They had previously denied importing cannabis between July 1 and September 2.

According to the prosecutor, the two women though they were “importing gold, not cannabis”.
