Si Woo Kim commits to Sony Open, quieting LIV Golf rumors – FBC News

[Source: Reuters] Si Woo Kim is sticking with the PGA Tour — at least for the first event of the new season. The Korean golfer posted on Instagram on Friday that he’ll participate in the Sony Open that begins Jan. 15 in Hawaii. The announcement came amid reports that LIV Golf has been pursuing Kim to join its organization. Article continues after advertisement “OK guys, see you in (the Sony Open),” Kim said Friday. The first event of the 2026 season for LIV Golf doesn’t take place until two weeks after the Sony Open, so Kim’s commitment doesn’t rule out a possible change next month. A report earlier this week said Kim was close to making the switch, but an official close to the 30-year-old rejected the idea. “It is true that Kim Si-woo, like many Korean players, has been offered a recruitment,” the official told South Korea’s Maeil Business Newspaper on Thursday. “However, Kim Si-woo finally expressed his intention to refuse and decided to remain on the PGA Tour.” LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil told GOLF.com that South Korea is one of the league’s important markets for future growth. Not only has LIV Golf been linked to Kim and Sungjae Im, but the league has also filed a trademark for the team name “Becko East GC.” Becko, formally spelled Baekho in Korean, means “white tiger,” which is a popular symbol in Korean mythology. LIV must complete its rosters for the 2026 season by Feb. 4. Kim is the 47th-ranked golfer in the world. He won the Sony Open in 2023. Stream the best of Fiji on VITI+. Anytime. Anywhere.

Quiet champion lifts Jeremiah Raibevu College into Badminton spotlight – FBC News

Jeremiah Raibevu College has produced a breakthrough sporting moment after student Isimeli Nayacakalou claimed the C Grade title at the Badminton Fiji Open Nationals. The win marks a major milestone for the school, which only recently introduced badminton as an alternative sport to athletics and rugby. Principal Merewalesi Tuloma says with just three months of exposure to the game, four students stepped up to compete at the three-day national tournament, exceeding expectations on debut. Article continues after advertisement “We were just trying to look for sports that our students can be engaged in after athletics and rugby.” She explained that the school’s journey into badminton began after a teacher who played the sport last year encouraged staff to explore it further. That initiative led to Badminton Fiji visiting the school to showcase the game, opening the door for students to try something new. The spotlight belonged to Nayacakalou, whose calm nature and discipline carried him to the C Grade crown, making him the first student from the school to win a national badminton title. “We are so humbly proud of Isimeli because he is always quiet and independent, but he gave his time, dedication and willingness into badminton.” She believes the young shuttler’s future in the sport is promising, especially given how quickly he adapted to competitive play. Tuloma also confirmed plans to expand the badminton program next year, using Nayacakalou’s success as inspiration for more students. “This is something that will inspire our students because victory is sweet, but it is sweeter when it comes from commitment and dedication.” The principal also thanked Badminton Fiji for reaching out to a lesser-known school, saying the student’s performance has now ensured it is recognised on the national badminton scene. The school, which is based in Tacirua was established eight years ago with a total of 185 students. Meanwhile, the three-day competition concluded this afternoon at the Yat Sen School Hall. Junior Bati step into 7s challenge – FBC News

The Fiji National Rugby League Under-18 team stepped outside their comfort zone this weekend, testing themselves in a different code at the Flame Tree Waimanu 7s as part of efforts to keep players match-fit after the rugby league season wrapped up. Captain Iliesa Ravusese says the switch to the 7s format was a valuable learning experience for the young side, despite their campaign ending in the pool stages. Ravusese believes the team will need time to fully adjust to the demands of the code, with discussions already underway for the Junior Bati 7s to feature in more tournaments moving forward. Article continues after advertisement The young Naitasiri captain says there is always room to learn and improve in the world of sport. “Switching codes from league to 7s is not easy. We copped a few yellow cards in the first half of our first match, and it was because of the tackling style from league that we used in 7s. We know it’s not supposed to be like that, but we understand that 7s is a different game altogether.” He says opportunities like this do not come around often, and the team is grateful for the chance to try something completely new. “I believe the more game time we have, the more prepared the boys will be during this off-season before a new year of rugby league starts. We’re all on holiday now, and we’re grateful to Madam Kelera Tagivakatini for allowing us these opportunities, where we’re not only limited to rugby league but can also explore 7s.” The Junior Bati squad fielded the youngest team in the Under-20 grade at the two-day tournament, which concluded at Laucala Bay in Suva yesterday. Ravusese has also been selected by Sailosi Naiteqe Senior to be part of the Shogun Highlanders Under-20 team at the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s, which runs from the 15th to the 17th of next month at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Kaiviti Silktails unveil logo for a bold new era – FBC News

[Source: Kaiviti Silktails Rugby League Football Club/ Facebook] The Kaiviti Silktails Rugby League Football Club has drawn a clear line between its battle hardened past and an ambitious future with the launch of a powerful new logo, a symbol forged by adversity, resilience and an unbreakable Kaiviti spirit. More than a visual refresh, the new emblem represents a defining moment for a club that has endured challenges few expansion teams ever face. Guided by Chairman and NRL legend Petero Civoniceva and led by Executive Director Stephen Driscoll, the Silktails’ new identity tells the story of a team that refuses to bend, let alone break. Article continues after advertisement Since their inception in 2020, the Silktails’ journey has been anything but smooth. The global COVID 19 pandemic immediately halted their inaugural season, forcing players and staff to remain overseas and separated from families and support networks at a time of deep uncertainty. That period of sacrifice was compounded by the tragic passing of beloved General Manager Jacquie Shannon, a loss that continues to shape the club’s values and purpose. Her legacy lives on through the Silktails’ Community Logo, first unveiled in 2023 in tribute to Aunty Jacquie’s Life, a reminder that the club’s heart extends far beyond the scoreboard. On the field, the transition into the fiercely competitive Jersey Flegg Cup tested the club’s resolve to its core. A bruising season marked by a 26 round winless run could have broken a young organisation. Instead, it hardened it. The Silktails rallied to secure their first ever Jersey Flegg victory and have since continued to embody the grit, belief and perseverance that define Fijian rugby league. The newly launched logo marks the next step in that evolution. Following the original 2020 design, the 2021 to 2024 emblem, the Aunty Jacquie Community Logo and a special anniversary crest, this latest symbol is firmly focused on the future. “This new logo represents the spirit of every player, staff member, supporter and community partner who has helped us grow over the past five years. It honours our heritage while driving us into the future with strength and purpose.” Civoniceva described the unveiling as a milestone moment as the club builds toward the 2026 season and beyond. “This is an exciting moment for our Silktails Rugby League Football Club. The refreshed logo was developed in consultation with Aaron Eastgate of Westfence Creative, who also designed the new Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs NRL logo. As a feeder club to the Bulldogs, that connection is significant and will feature on the back of our 2026 playing jersey and training apparel.” He adds that the bold, angular design reflects strength, speed and an unyielding focus, qualities forged through years of hardship. “The design embodies our spirit of resilience and our commitment to keep forging ahead no matter how great the challenge. As our club and community youth programs continue to evolve, it is fitting to see our logo evolve with us and set us up for an exciting future.” More than a crest, the new Silktails logo stands as a declaration of intent. The trials of the past have strengthened the club’s resolve to remain a permanent pathway for Fijian talent into elite rugby league and a source of pride for the nation. Originally from Vatuwaqa in Suva, Kumar’s journey into top level football has been built on persistence rather than pedigree.
