Jack Draper v Federico Agustin Gomez live score: British No 1 begins US Open campaign against qualifier

Good hold from Draper from 0-30 down, including a clever little inside-out drop shot on 15-30.

Gomez made some silly mistakes in the game in which he was broken in the first set, but the Argentine clearly has a weapon of a serve. He races to a love-hold to stat the second set.

Beautiful serving from Draper. He finds the ace out wide, kicking wildly to the right, and then thunders another down the middle.

Two set points: Gomez slices long and Draper is looking very comfortable as he marches back to his chair a set ahead.

That left arm looked ok there as Draper blasted the winner.

Far from the tidiest game from Draper but he gets through it to consolidate the break as Gomez blasts wide on the forehand.

Some rustiness is expected of course.

From 0-30, Draper finds a couple of excellent deep returns to break to love!

He found the baseline with a backhand that Gomez had to run back to reach – the Argentine then comically goes for the tweener, which sails long.

Draper then converts the break points as he works his way into the rally and puts away the smash.

The gulf is ranking between Draper and Gomez is very clear when the British No 1 finds his return.

Gomez reaches 142mph on serve after Draper had a look at the Argentine’s game at 0-30.

Draper replies with a love-hold, and has won all 11 of his first-serve points so far.

The Brit is getting more returns in against Gomez so far, despite the qualifier’s impressive speed.

Cameron Norrie is through after Sebastian Korda retires after losing the second set!

Well, that’s not too much of a surprise. Korda had pulled out of his last match at Winston-Salem and has barely played since the French Open.

The American also took a timeout for a lower back issue and threw in the towel after going 7-5 6-4 down.

But a good starting result for Norrie.

Draper’s keen to show his first serve is pretty powerful too. He rattles through his service game with a couple of aces, with Gomez struggling against some of Draper’s lefty angles.

Gomez’s first serve is huge! The Argentine has already thrown down a 136mph ace. He’s settled well on his US Open main draw debut.
