Taylor Fritz:

“It’s a really crazy match. I thought it was about to be all over last night in the fourth set tie-breaker, I’m super happy to get through it.

On match suspension: “It’s obviously not ideal, I felt if we weren’t going to have time to finish the fifth set. I obviously wanted to play it, but either way, I felt confident coming back either way.

On 153 mph serve: “The funny thing is i tell my coaches I should try and serve body, i think body serves are awful. I sent the video to my coach, right into my chest and I won the point.”

On expectations: “This is a huge week for me with the recent results on grass, I really didn’t want to go out in the first round!”

Taylor Fritz wins!

Fritz 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4 Perricard

Wow! Who saw that coming (not me)!

Perricard double faults to start the game, loses a lengthy point and then goes wild on his forehand… twice!

Fritz breaks to love to win the match, coming from two sets to love down to progress to round two!

It’s on serve, but the American fifth seed is now just a game away.

That being said, Perricard has been so destructive on serve…

Krejcikova survives Eala challenge to reach second round

Krejcikova 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 Eala

Defending women’s champ Barbora Krejcikova gets it done in the end!

She battles from a set down to overcome the spirited Alexandra Eala.

Krejcikova entered this tournament on the back of an injury scare, but that win might have eased her nerves a bit.

Perricard holds

*Fritz 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 3-3 Perricard

A 147mph ace. A 143mph ace. Fritz can’t get a look in on the Perricard serve!

Shall we just skip to the tiebreak, perhaps?

Fritz holds

Fritz 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 3-2 Perricard*

From 40-0, Perricard battles back to deuce but Fritz – to his credit – holds his own serve under pressure.

But my word, the Frenchman’s shots are enormous! To conclude the game, he thumps a forehand long – a shot which must’ve clocked 110mph!

Eala gets on scoreboard in final set with Krejcikova

*Krejcikova 3-6, 6-2, 3-1 Eala

Krejcikova hooks a cross-court backhand into the tramlines, and Eala finally holds serve after a gruelling game. She’s on the scoreboard in this final set.
