ONE of the biggest names omitted from Steve Stricker’s American Ryder Cup team is one of the greatest of all time.
Tiger Woods misses out on the 2021 edition of the tournament just two years after bagging his miraculous comeback win at the Masters.
USA and Europe have confirmed their 12-man teams for his year’s Ryder Cup, which starts on September 24 in Whistling Straits, Wisconsin.
There is no Woods in the American team, as well as Phil Mickelson, who misses out.
Why isn’t Tiger Woods playing in the 2021 Ryder Cup?
Tiger Woods suffered a horror car crash in February that left him with serious career-threatening injuries.
The 45-year-old underwent surgery after the crash in California that saw his car career down a ravine with awful damage to both driver and car.
He suffered multiple fractures in his lower right leg and was pictured wearing a protective knee to toe boot recently.
Steve Stricker, USA’s Ryder Cup captain, ruled out any assistant role for Tiger at Whistling Straits, where former stars are often part of the captain’s support team.
Stricker said: “I’ve talked to Tiger a lot. He’s a part of this Ryder Cup family.
“He won’t be able to be a captain’s assistant this time around just because of his ongoing rehabilitation to try to get better and to try to play golf again, and that is going well.
“[Tiger] is progressing. He’s doing well, things are moving in the right direction.”
