MANCHESTER UNITED stewards wrestled a pitch invader to the ground just INCHES away from a shocked Cristiano Ronaldo after an incredible chase.

The Portugal legend, 36, scored a towering header in the 81st minute to complete a dramatic comeback against Atalanta.

United had trailed 2-0 at half-time following goals from Mario Pasalic and Merih Demiral and were booed off the pitch by disgruntled fans.

Eventually, one steward manages to catch up and wrestle him to the floor just centimetres from Ronaldo.

The pitch invader managed to grab the back of his jersey, with the Portuguese ace turning around in astonishment – only to see one of the stewards had slipped onto his backside.

Ronaldo saw the funny side of the debacle as he smirked and turned back to the camera.

After a brief check behind him again, Ronaldo continued his determined march back to the changing room.

Ronaldo has now bailed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer out of hot water TWICE in just three Champions League games this season.
