Kaizer Chiefs booked their passage into the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup after a 4-0 win over Free Agents

Chiefs made light work of their amateur opponents and hardly had to break a sweat to earn the result.

They opened the scoring through Pule Mmodi who is starting to enjoy a bit of moment in the starting line up. The former Golden Arrows winger scored a brace to set Chiefs well on their way in the first half. They went into the break 2-0 thanks to his exploits on the left flank. The second half would see two more goals from Inacio Miguel and much maligned striker Ranga Chivaviro. There was also a second clean sheet in a row for goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma

Matlou given Man of the Match award

Although Mmodi got all the plaudits for his double, he had to share the headlines with teammate George Matlou. The lanky midfielder was amongst the assists on the night, sliding through Chivaviro for his goal. Overall, he had yet another solid game, building on from his impress match against Sekhukhune United in the previous week. It duly earned him the man of the match award. Speaking in his post match interview with SuperSport TV, the Chiefs star cut an emotional figure.

Matlou has recently returned from a long-term injury that had seen him miss nine months of action for Chiefs. Some sections of the fan base had also been calling for him to be axed by the club to make way for better quality. After winning the award, he couldn’t hold back the tears.

Chiefs star cried as he opened up on injury journey

“It’s emotional for me. It has been a hard journey, it’s not easy to be out of football for nine months. I’m grateful to my (Chiefs) medical team and the coach (Nasreddine Nabi) for believing in me.” Admitted Matlou .

Chiefs are now set to take on archrivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby on Saturday. Amakhosi, should Matlou maintain his place in the starting line up? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
