Nasinu and Tailevu Naitasiri under 16 girls started the 2022 Digicel U16 Girl’s Youth League with wins last Saturday at MGM Primary School Grounds in Suva.

Lami won 2-1 against Nasinu while Tailevu Naitasiri edged Rewa 2-1.

Fiji FA Development Officer Waifune Tupua said both matches were exciting.

“Despite the ground condition all the teams displayed good football in the opening round of the competition,” said Tupua

“It was even contested matches but Nasinii and Tailevu Naitasiri worked hard for the win.

“Lami was leading at halftime and it was good the see the girls from Nasinu regroup in the second half to score two goals which were very exciting,”

“Tailevu Naitasiri and Rewa encounter was a thriller. Tailevu Naitasiri showed its class in the second half with two goals after the first half ended in a nil-all draw,” said Tupua

She said there was huge interest growing in women’s football.

“We have seen lots of girls joining districts now to play football and the U16 league is the development of women’s football and I am happy that we have started the U16 competition,” said Tupua

In the western zone, Nadroga won 3-1 against Nadi, Ba thrashed Rakiraki 11-1 while Tavua defeated Lautoka 5-1.
