Liverpool size up move for Viktor Gyokeres

Liverpool are interested in competing for the services of Sporting’s wantaway striker Viktor Gyokeres.

That’s according to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha, which reports that the Premier League club have made an initial enquiry over Sporting’s asking price, thought to be around €80m (£69m).

Manchester United have been strongly linked with Gyokeres this summer after the Swedish international scored 54 goals last season. Arsenal are the only club to have submitted a concrete offer and Gyokeres is reported to prefer a move to the Emirates to Old Trafford.

Liverpool’s involvement could now throw Arsenal’s plans into chaos, as Arne Slot seeks to replace Darwin Nunez, a target for Italian champions Napoli.

Bilbao speak to LaLiga over Barcelona finances amid pursuit of Nico Williams

Athletic Bilbao have confirmed that they have held talks with LaLiga to establish Barcelona’s financial position as the Catalan club look to sign Nico Williams.

Barcelona sporting director Deco revealed last week the club are intent on bringing the highly-rated 22-year-old winger to the Nou Camp this summer and have reportedly already agreed personal terms.

Still under financial constraints, Barcelona must comply with the ‘1:1 rule’ and are only able to spend as much as their income and accounts allow, governed by LaLiga, which calculates a limit.

Bilbao have sought feedback from LaLiga about how Barcelona would finance any transfer of Williams, who helped the Basque club qualify for next season’s Champions League and reach the Europa League semi-finals.

Ashley Barnes signs new Burnley deal

Burnley have announced that Ashley Barnes has signed a new one-year deal.

The forward has played over 300 times for the Clarets and scored 42 Premier League goals and will hope to be a key figure in keeping them in the top flight next season after promotion.

“I have unfinished business,” Barnes said on his extension.

“I’m not done yet and I’m here to challenge for a place in the squad, as well as helping everyone out and being in that environment around the changing room.

“I can bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the new lads and younger players. There’s a few of us that have been in the Premier League before and a few that are new to it, it’s about having that balance in the team and I have to use my influence on and off the pitch to help where I can.”

Everton plan to derail Kenny Tete’s new contract with Fulham

Everton are looking to derail Kenny Tete’s contract renegotiation with Fulham, after offering a three-year contract.

The respected Dutch right-back’s current deal runs out at the end of June, meaning he could move on a free transfer, but the Craven Cottage hierarchy have been confident of a new agreement.
