Tottenham fan BURNS his Christian Eriksen shirt after former Spurs star agreed to join Man United – and bizarrely suggests he did it because of the Dane’s 2017 promise to never play for another English club (so what about Brentford!?)
- Fan posts video on Twitter showing themselves burning an old Spurs kit
- Christian Eriksen agreed to join Manchester United on a free this summer
- Dane spent the second half of last season with Brentford where he impressed
Eriksen, who spent the second half of last season with Brentford in his comeback from a cardiac arrest on the pitch at Euro 2020 last summer, agreed to join Erik ten Hag at Manchester United after much speculation surrounding his next club.
In an angry response to the Dane joining Tottenham’s Premier League rivals, a fan took the drastic step of choosing to burn his old Eriksen shirt.

Fellow Tottenham supporters criticised the fan on social media after he posted the video
The fan then appeared to suggest, rather bizarrely, that he chose to set fire to the kit owing to a promise Eriksen made to Tottenham chief Daniel Levy in 2017 that he would never play for another English club – a promise previously revealed by Sportsmail.
Manchester United will be the second English top-flight club Eriksen will have played for since leaving Spurs.
The Denmark international joined his countryman Thomas Frank at Brentford last season after being forced to leave Inter Milan over rules in Serie A preventing him from playing in Italy due to being fitted with an implanted cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) after his cardiac arrest playing for Denmark last summer.
The video, captioned ‘a man of my word’, shows the supporter’s former Eriksen kit in a disposable roasting tray before a large lighter sets fire to the replica shirt.
Speculation had been surrounding the future of the Denmark international and he has now verbally agreed to join Erik ten Hag’s revolution at Manchester United
A further tweet from the Spurs supporter suggested that he did it in response to Eriksen joining another English club.
‘United fans thinking it’s about them (as always) why would we start a rivalry with your dead club when we are so much better?’ the fan tweeted.
Other Spurs fans did not take kindly to the incident on social media, however, with many calling out what they saw as ridiculous animosity towards a former player who they still hold in high regard.
The fan appeared to be frustrated at Eriksen breaking a promise he made to Daniel Levy
Eriksen told the Tottenham chief in 2017 he would not play for another English club
‘Man can’t believe you guys call yourselves Spurs fans,’ one tweeted.
While another wrote: ‘We’re better/classier than this.’
‘What an odd thing to do. Brentford are as much of a rival as United to us. Delete this,’ another wrote.
Fans also went on to question the supporter for burning it after he joined Manchester United, rather than when he arrived at Brentford earlier this year.
‘So if it’s not about Manchester United why didn’t you burn it when he joined Brentford?’ one queried.
Another bluntly remarked: ‘He literally went to Brentford. So this statement is nonsense.’
