Toma in, Lal out for Nadi FC

Former Nadi and national team defender Viliame Toma has been appointed as the third coach for the Esy Cool Nadi FC this season following the resignation of coach Salen Lal this week.

Former Fiji FA Technical Director Ravinesh Kumar was the coach early this year before he was replaced by Shalen Lal.

Toma is not new in coaching as he has coached Nadi in 2017 and was also part of the national team in 2019.

Lal handed his resignation on Monday after successive three losses in the Digicel Premier League.

The former Ba and national rep said the reason for his resignation was that his coaching ethics has been challenged since the team was coached very well during the training.

“The team training was done well. But the delivery part on the field was not there and that’s a factor that affected the team.”

“I feel that my coaching ethics are being challenged by doing my best with the team during training and things are not working out well.”

“With the same group of players, technicalities and gameplan, the players were doing well but all of a sudden things started to change.”

“We had disappointing losses and that really affected our standings in the DPL.”

“For me personally, I believe Nadi has got a lot of talent with continued guidance and a structured coaching team will do very well in time to come.”

“I really don’t know what is really wrong with the team currently as we all during the preparations(training)work hard to work on many aspects to deliver during games but come game the team is not delivering.”

“Players are our picture during games but things can’t fall in our path if their approach towards the game is not in a positive way.”

“I had a very good time exploring myself with a lot of challenges and with those I can vouch I have become a better coach than before after many months with Nadi,” he explained.

Toma will be assisted by former national, Nadi and Rewa rep Emosi Baleinuku

Nadi went down 4-0 to Suva, lost 3-1 against Lautoka and thrashed 3-nil by Ba.
