Fiji’s women’s football team has achieved a significant milestone, three senior players have secured professional contracts overseas for the 2025 season.
The three players who have signed international contracts are Adi Lita Bakaniceva, the National and Rewa midfielder who joined Papua New Guinea’s Hekari FC last week. Known for her exceptional vision and ball control, Adi Lita’s move is a testament to her consistent performance and dedication to the sport.
Maria Veronica Maria is set to join Adi Lita at Hekari FC this Wednesday. Her midfield versatility and ability to adapt to different playing styles make her a valuable addition to the team.
Rewa and national team defender Anegline Rekha, a versatile defender has signed with Western Springs in New Zealand. She is expected to travel on February 1. Her strong tackling, aerial prowess, and leadership qualities have earned her recognition as one of Fiji’s finest defenders.
This achievement reflects the rising standards of women’s football in Fiji, driven by the Fiji Football Association’s investment in grassroots programs and competitive leagues. The contracts also highlight the increasing recognition of Fijian talent on the global stage.
Fiji Football Association President Rajesh Patel expressed his pride in the players, stating, “This is a proud moment for Fijian football. These contracts show that our players can compete at the highest levels and inspire the next generation of female footballers.”
The players’ journeys were not without challenges. They worked tirelessly to hone their skills and impressed scouts during regional tournaments, including the OFC Women’s Nations Cup and friendlies against top-tier teams. Their performances, coupled with their dedication, have paved the way for this remarkable achievement.
The news of these signings has sparked excitement among young female players across Fiji. Coaches and officials believe that these success stories will inspire more girls to take up the sport and pursue professional careers.
“These players are trailblazers,” said national women’s coach Angeline Chua. “Their success shows what is possible with hard work and determination. We hope to see more players following in their footsteps.”
