ITV RACING is back with a blockbuster double-header from Newbury.
And Friday sees a ‘Race of the Season’ contender in the Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle.
You can check out the start times for today’s action plus what races are on in our helpful explainer.
But to find out what Templegate thinks, read on…
MCFABULOUS (3.00, nap) looks destined for the very top after an impressive comeback win in Chepstow’s Persian War Hurdle. With Paisley Park entitled to need this after his Cheltenham flop, Paul Nicholls’ rising star can bag another big win.
Here’s my guide to all the action on ITV3 this afternoon.
1.50: CARIBEAN BOY was impressive when scoring at Haydock when last seen in February.
He jumped well and looked to have a good engine.
Nicky Henderson won this 12 months ago and this six-year-old has much more to come on his third run over fences.
Fiddlerontheroof was a high-class hurdler and had to work hard to land his first chase win at Exeter 16 days ago. He can improve on that but needs to.
Getaway Trump won a small contest at Fakenham last week but this is a lot hotter so needs another step forward.
2.25: OLDGRANGEWOOD loves this race having won it twice in the past three years.
He’s taken the same route again this season with a good effort at Aintree before heading here.
He signed off last season with a good fourth at the Cheltenham Festival and has enough quality to figure again.
Sully D’Oc AA is progressing well and looks a big threat after his smooth success at Ascot last month.
He’s been hiked 10lb for that but is open to lots of improvement over this sort of trip.
San Benedeto is interesting for Paul Nicholls. He won a Grade 1 contest over course and distance last year and has dropped back to that mark for the first time since. He was fourth in this 12 months ago and could improve on that.
Cepage is consistent but would like more rain, while Fidux and Clondaw Castle are in good form so make the shortlist.
3.00: If Paisley Park is over the heart flutter he suffered when beaten in the Stayers’ Hurdle he’ll be hard to beat.
He won six top contests in a row before that including this race 12 months ago.
But it may be best to keep an eye on him for this comeback and go in with MCFABULOUS instead.
He came back from a long break to win a Chepstow Grade 2 pulling a bus last month.
This longer trip should suit and he looks capable of winning at the highest level.
Summerville Boy got the job done well at Aintree three weeks ago and can hit the frame.
3.35: DELL’ARCA loves Newbury as he showed when winning here in great style earlier this month.
That built on a smooth Aintree success and he can defy a 6lb rise while in this hot form.
Hill Sixteen looks a big threat if repeating his chase form over hurdles.
He lagged in at Ffos Las on debut for Nigel Twiston-Davies and could be well ahead of the handicapper.
Neville’s Cross won his first two starts this season and has place claims after another good effort at Cheltenham.
