The Tailevu Naitasiri football side is one step closer to winning the Digicel Senior League title this season.
The Nigel Khan-coached side remains unbeaten in the competition and tops the points table standings with 23 points after coming from behind to beat Lami 2-1 at Uprising Sports Center in Pacific Harbour on Sunday.
Tailevu Naitasiri will play Rakiraki in the final round this weekend and a win will put them in the final play-off for the promotion/ relegation series.
The Sky Blues assistant coach Priyant Manu says Lami gave them a good run in the match.
“It was a hard-fought win. We started the match on a slow pace and boys were too complacent in the first half, “said Manu
“We regrouped and managed to control the other half and got the much-needed three points.
“Hats off to Lami for giving us a tough game and also to our players they gave their best. Our players know how costly it could be if we lose a point but I am happy that the players did their best in getting to the edge of the final play-offs,”said Manu
Manu took over the bench after head coach Khan was shown the red card in the Nasinu match.
Meanwhile, Nasinu defeated Tavua 3-1 at Garvey Park in Tavua on Sunday. Nasinu is two points behind Tailevu Naitasiri and will face Northland Tailevu in its final match this weekend.
The Mira Sahib coach side will hope Rakiraki beats Tailevu Naitasiri and they will against Northland which will put them in the final play-offs.
