The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has kicked off the OFC Senior Futsal C-License course at its academy in Ba, marking an important step in developing futsal coaching standards in the country.

The week-long program is being led by National Futsal Head Coach Jerry Sam, who guides 16 passionate participants from various parts of Fiji through the inaugural course of 2024.

Speaking about the program, Coach Sam emphasized the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the participants.

“We have 16 participants from around the country who have a passion for futsal,” he said. “The course is designed to provide these aspiring coaches with the skills and knowledge required to assess the competency of their training programs and eventually become licensed futsal coaches in Fiji.”

Sam says the course aims to elevate the overall quality of futsal coaching in Fiji.

“By equipping coaches with structured methodologies and modern techniques, the program ensures they are well-prepared to contribute to player development at both grassroots and competitive levels,” he explained.

The participants will undergo both theoretical and practical sessions, focusing on key aspects such as understanding futsal-specific tactics and strategies, developing technical skills among players, conducting efficient and organized training sessions, and assessing and improving player performance.

Futsal has been gaining momentum in Fiji, and the need for qualified coaches has become more apparent.

This course is a significant initiative by Fiji FA and the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) to build a stronger foundation for the sport.

After completing it, participants will join the ranks of certified coaches, helping to grow futsal across the nation.

Sam’s leadership and experience in the sport are expected to inspire the participants, many of whom are already actively involved in futsal at the community level. This initiative aligns with Fiji FA’s broader goals of developing football and futsal nationwide through structured coaching programs and competitions.
