The Nadroga Women’s football side defeated Rewa 1-0 in round seven of the Digicel Women’s Super League last Saturday at Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa.
Sucu Sotia scored the lone goal in the 20th minute of the game with a powerful 30 yarder shot which caught Rewa goalkeeper Merevesi Ofakimalino.
Nadroga coach Garfil Coster said it was a sweet victory for them.
“I am so proud of the girls today (Saturday). They performed gallantly as we came here to win and take the revenge from Rewa,”
“It’s a sweet victory because Rewa defeated us 7-0 in the first round at Lawaqa Park and we got the three points that are a huge improvement,” said former Nadroga rep
“There is more to work with a team as we go in the second round of the competition. We are playing Ba this weekend and the win is a blessing as the girls have been motivated,”
“We will iron out our weaknesses and we will do our best against the champion Ba side, “said Coster
Newly appointed Rewa coach Immanuel Prasad said he was impressed with his side’s performance despite the result.
“I was with the team for only two days but I am happy with the way the girls played. We dominated the game but we lacked finishing, “said Prasad
The former Dreketi rep said it was a good learning ground for him.
“Well I have seen the weaknesses in the team and will work out more on fitness and finishing aspect of the game,”
“We have some very good players but I think they have been playing without a mentor and maybe that is why the performance of the team has gone down”
“I am confident we will come out stronger in our remaining matches, “said Prasad
Rewa will play Suva this weekend.
