Matthijs de Ligt is keen on a move to Chelsea this summer with Stamford Bridge chiefs planning further talks over a potential £65m deal this week – but Juventus want to drive the price up as much as possible before replacing him with Kalidou Koulibaly
- Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt is interested in a move to Premier League Chelsea
- The Blues are looking to sign the Dutch centre half for a fee of around £65million
- Max Allegri’s Serie A side are pushing for as much cash as possible from Chelsea
Chelsea have lost centre backs Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively at the end of their contracts this summer, with Cesar Azpilicueta also a potential departure.
And Blues manager Thomas Tuchel wants to fix his defence as a top priority, with negotiations planned over the next few days to try and secure de Ligt’s signature.

Chelsea, who have been back and forth with several offers, are hoping to do the deal for around £65m.
However, Juventus are pushing for as much cash as possible from the deal and want to drive up the price even higher.
The Premier League side have offered forwards Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner as makeweights in potential player-plus-cash deals, but Pulisic wants to stay and fight for his place.
Werner, meanwhile, is still being mentioned but the Serie A outfit want a player like Paulo Dybala – who left the Allianz Stadium this summer when his contract ended – who can play behind the striker, cut in front the wing and create chances.
Juve are interested in the likes of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as a potential replacement
Chelsea’s Italian midfielder Jorginho has been mentioned but a deal for the 30-year-old would likely be treated separately.
German champions Bayern Munich and Premier League winners Manchester City are also keen on de Ligt to an extent, but the Dutch defender likes the prospect of a move to Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel wants to sign another defender, with either City’s Nathan Ake or Sevilla’s Jules Kounde on his shopping list, but Ake is settled at the Etihad Stadium and City would need to find a replacement before selling him.
Juventus are interested in the likes of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly – also wanted by Chelsea – or Torino’s Gleison Bremer as potential replacements for de Ligt if he does depart this summer.
