The 24-member Digicel national football team has marched into camp in Ba yesterday for the final preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 OFC Preliminary Competition to be played in Qatar next month.
Head coach Flemming Serritslev had named the 24-member squad in for the Bula Boys.
Labasa midfielder Ilisoni Logavou was the 24= member named on Sunday.
Serristlev said the squad was named following a criteria where they looked at players’ football capability and quality.
He has named four goalkeepers in the squad including young Isikeli Seva, Benaminio Mateiniqara, Akuila Mataisuva and Mohammed Alzar
“There is a big reason for having four goalkeepers because we watched an international match where a team had three goalkeepers. Two of them contacted COVID and the other fell to injury so a player from the inside field had to take the goalkeeper position and that is something we want to avoid.”
“Four goalkeepers will get an equal chance to play.”
The side will be captained by Fijian wonder boy Roy Krishna while Rumeru Tekiate will be the vice-captain.
The Bula Boys will face New Caledonia in their first pool match on the 18th of March.
