Liverpool’s deal for Darwin Nunez is ‘practically SEALED’ with club record fee of ‘£85m including add-ons agreed with Benfica’… and star striker has ‘said yes’ to the move after sorting personal terms
- Liverpool are edging closer to securing Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, reports claim
- Nunez is one of Europe’s hottest prospects after netting 34 goals last season
- The Reds have reportedly agreed a £68million deal that could rise to £85m
Liverpool are close to the signing of Benfica forward Darwin Nunez, reports claim, with the deal ‘practically sealed’.
The 22-year-old striker is one of Europe’s hottest new talents after a scintellating season that saw him smash in 34 goals in 41 games for the Portuguese outfit, and the Merseyside outfit have become convinced he is the man to bring fresh impetus to their forward line.

Sportsmail revealed this week that Jurgen Klopp’s side had opened talks with Benfica to bring the player to Anfield amid interest from Manchester United and Atletico Madrid in a £85million move that would break their transfer record.
And now Portuguese outlet A Bola claims the switch is more or less a done deal, saying it is ‘practically sealed’ – with Liverpool paying £68m initially, with the fee potentially rising to £85m with add-ons.
Nunez has also agreed to the move, the report adds, with the player currently on international duty with Uruguay but having ‘already said yes’ to playing for Klopp.
The £85m transfer would be a new record for Liverpool, eclipsing the £75m they paid for defender Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in 2017.
Nunez would effectively be a replacement for Sadio Mane (C), who is seeking an exit
The 22-year-old caught Jurgen Klopp’s eye last season after scoring twice against Liverpool
And Benfica won’t need to secure a replacement for Nunez before selling him to Liverpool, it claims, and the club are not looking to sign a new striker at present.
Julian Ward, Liverpool’s new sporting director, has been leading the discussions with Benfica over Nunez – who could effectively replace Sadio Mane. The Senegalese star was the subject of a second bid from Bayern Munich that totalled £30million on Wednesday and he has made it clear he is seeking a new challenge.
And with Mane’s time at Anfield seemingly coming to an end, Nunez looks to be the future and would be a huge statement of intent for Liverpool’s title charge next season following Man City’s £51m deal for Erling Haaland.
Klopp looks to have beaten off competition from Manchester United and Atletico for Nunez
Nunez’s versatility will also be a huge pull for Liverpool in a front three that had been widely interchangeable. He can play on the left flank as well as through the middle and scored six goals in the Champions League last season, two of which came in the quarter-finals against Liverpool.
A regular for the Uruguay national team, Nunez has picked up 11 caps since making his debut in 2019, scoring twice.
He started his career at Penarol in his home country, before moving to Almeria in Spain’s second division. He scored 16 times there, before earning a move to Benfica – where he has fired in 48 goals in 85 outings.
