The Digicel National Women’s team presented its i-Sevusevu to the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the State House yesterday.
His Excellency, while addressing the team, highlighted on the importance of leaving the worries behind and getting the focus right on lies ahead of them.
“Free yourself from all the worries and things that have been going in your mind, and get ready to go out and do what you are passionate about, something that you have dreamed to find yourself representing Fiji in soccer.
“You have gone through the hard yards, trained, you have been working with the coach and management and discussed what you have to do on the field and what you do off the field.
“What you do off the field can also have an impact on what you do on the field.
“Remember your parents, your friends, clubs, this office and the whole of Fiji will be supporting you, thick or thin, be rest assured of our support,” His Excellency the President mentioned.
Digicel National Women’s head coach, Lisa Cole, said the President’s words had a direct impact right from the time he addressed the team.
“I think it was really important that the women were able to meet the President of Fiji and recognize that playing in these games is not just about ourselves but representing Fiji, representing homes and families.
“It’s a great message from him about leaving the worries there and just focusing on representing the country and doing their best out on the field.
“His words are right that at the end of the day hard work has been done, we are prepared and done with what was needed to get to this point so the focus needs to be just there in representing the country.”
The Digicel National Women’s team takes on the Solomon Islands in its first group match at 7 pm this Thursday as the OFC Women’s Nations Cup kicks off this Wednesday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
