The Extra Supermarket Labasa Football Club has begun preparations for the much-anticipated Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion (CVC) series against Rewa FC.

With training already underway, the Babasiga Lions are determined to make a strong statement in the competition.

Association president Rayaz Khan confirmed that the team commenced training last week, and despite a temporary hurdle, preparations are moving smoothly.

“Yes, we have started our training, but unfortunately, our head coach Ravneel Pratap is away due to personal commitments. We have assigned Alvin Chand and Mohammed Imran to assist until Pratap returns,” Khan explained.

Despite the absence of their head coach, the team remains focused and motivated under the guidance of interim trainers.

“The players are responding well to training, and we are confident that Ravneel’s return will bring the final push we need to refine our game plan,” Khan added.

Khan highlighted the significance of the CVC series for the team.

“The CVC series is always special for us. It’s an opportunity to showcase our strength as a team and fight for the title. The boys are determined, and the community support has been overwhelming,” he said.

Under Khan’s leadership, the Babasiga Lions have won the CVC title three times—first in 2017 when defeating Ba, in 2020 against Lautoka, and in 2021 against Suva.

Labasa FC is expected to field a strong squad for the series, featuring a blend of experienced players and emerging talents.

Khan confirmed that no current players have applied for transfers during the pre-season window.

“At the moment, no player has talked to us about their move to another district, but our former striker Ratu Anare has shown his interest in rejoining us, and we are working on it,” Khan revealed.

He also hinted at the possibility of overseas reinforcements for the team.

“We are in talks with some overseas players, and if things go well, they will be here for the season,” Khan mentioned, referring to discussions with players from the Solomon Islands.

As preparations intensify, Khan remains optimistic about Labasa FC’s chances in the CVC series.

“This team has proven time and time again that we thrive under pressure. We know what’s at stake, and we’re ready to give it our all,” Khan emphasized.

The first leg of the Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion (CVC) series will be held at Subrail Park in Labasa on Saturday, February 1st at 1.30 pm while the second leg will be played at Ratu Cakobau Park on February 9 at 3 pm.
