The Digicel National Women’s football team is currently in camp at Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa.
A 28-member extended squad marched into camp last Sunday in preparation for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers to be staged in Qatar next year in July.
Technical Director, Timo Jankowski, is currently coaching the team after the departure of Marika Rodu.
Jankowski was pleased with the players’ spirit for the national team.
“I am very positive as I have seen the spirit in the players. They have shown team spirit which is overwhelming,” said Jankowski.
“They have positive energy and they were too good during the first session today (Monday).
The German national said the players adopted well with his style of coaching.
“I am very positively surprised after seeing the first day of training with a passion they have for football.
“We had some competition game with shooting and I could see they really want to win. They love scoring goals and liked to get better,” said Jankowski
He said he would need to work on the fitness level of the players.
Jankowski confirmed that players from northern players will join the next camp.
“Of course, after this long covid break it’s not easy as they have trained with individual programs but they have to be very careful in this camp to build gradually their fitness level up so we are doing it step by step.
“We have a few players from Labasa who all are monitored by our technical department staff in North but hopefully they will join our next camp in November.”
