IDC a success, says Wise

Fiji Football Association women vice president Susan Wise hailed the recent Digicel Women’s Inter-District Championship (IDC) a success.

The five days championship ended with a sparkling grand final between Labasa and Ba at ANZ Stadium in Suva on Sunday with the Ladies from North lifting the silverware.

Wise said the competition level in the women’s competition is growing and it was evident in the IDC.

“We had a successful tournament,” she said.

“We had the group stages and the semi-finals at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka with six best teams competing and final in Suva was for the first time live broadcast on TV which is a history for women’s football.”

“The competition level in the women’s football has also become stiff and we witnessed it in the final.

“I would like to congratulate Labasa for winning the title and also commend the young Ba girls for giving a tough challenge.”

She said, for women’s football, the focus would now shift to the Digicel Women’s Women’s Super Six and Senior League in the domestic competition while the Digicel national women’s football team continues its preparation for the upcoming Nations Cup.
