How UFC 267 main event rivals compare ahead of Fight Island clash

JAN BLACHOWICZ will defend his UFC light-heavyweight title tomorrow night on a stacked card in Abu Dhabi.

Standing opposite the 205lb king in his second title defence – which headlines UFC 267 – will be fellow veteran Glover Teixeira, who will bid to win UFC gold at the second time of asking.

The battle of seasoned light-heavyweights will cap off the UFC‘s fourth Fight Island stint on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island.

So SunSport thought it’d only be right to get into the meat and bones of their eagerly-anticipated showdown.

Age

Father Time is on the side of defending champion Blachowicz, who is 38 years young.

Poland’s second UFC titleholder, however, will enter the final year of his thirties on February 24.

Texeira is well and truly an elder statesman at the age of 42, which he turned on Thursday.

Victory over Blachowicz will see the John Hackleman-trained bruiser create UFC history by becoming the promotion’s oldest-ever champion.

Experience

Both Blachowicz and Teixeira are seasoned veterans of the fight game, with their respective mixed martial arts careers beginning in 2007 and 2002 respectively.

However, despite Teixeira’s five-year head start, the pair have had nearly the same number of fights.

Blachowicz has taken to the cage 36 times in his professional career, coming out victorious on 28 occasions.

Texeira, meanwhile, has 39 pro fights to his name and has won 32 of those outings.

Physical

Blachowicz and Teixeira are well-matched in the physical department, with both men standing at a tall 6’2.

Defending champ Blachowicz, however, possesses a two-inch reach advantage over his opponent, who will have to negate his deficit by closing the distance to land his strikes.

Form

Both men are in the form of their respective UFC careers, in particular Blachowicz.

The former KSW light-heavyweight champion is riding a five-streak that has seen him knock off the former and current middleweight titleholders Luke Rockhold and Israel Adesanya.

Texeira is also on a five-fight win streak, in which he’s registered back-to-back wins over former title challengers Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos.
