Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has joined Dutch side PSV Eindhoven on loan for the 2022-23 season.

The 20-year-old was left at home when Everton jetted off on their pre-season tour of America earlier this week, as the club looked to secure a temporary move away from Goodison Park for him.

He’ll link-up with Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took charge of the Eredivisie side’s first-team in March this year.

The English centre-back made just four Premier League starts last season as Frank Lampard opted for experience in pursuit of top flight survival.

Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town, Blackpool, Cardiff and Sunderland were all reported to be keen on taking the youngster on loan – before PSV competed a deal on Sunday afternoon.

Branthwaite has scored one goal for the club, which came against Chelsea during his first Premier League start of last season in December.

He was also sent off last season in May, receiving his marching orders after just 18 minutes of Everton’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford at Goodison Park when he dragged down Ivan Toney, who was through on goal.

The defender spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers, but has struggled to break into the Toffees first team under Frank Lampard.

The youngster has a deal running until summer 2023, and Everton now want him to push on in his career.

Branthwaite signed for Everton from Carlisle United in January 2020 at the age of 17, having played 14 first-team matches for the League Two club.
