Coaches broaden skills in coaching

TWENTY motivated coaches within Fiji football were given the opportunity to broaden their skills with the OFC senior coaching certificate course last weekend.

The course was conducted by Fiji FA coach educator Yogendra Dutt.

Dutt said the target group were member association southern zone football coaches.

“This course targets the coaches who will be coaching the youth football teams in their respective districts.”

Dutt said this was a pathway for the coaches to attain a C-licence certificate.

“These coaches will be eligible to be in the technical area during the games as per requirements and could progress to another level which is C-licence,” said Dutt.

“They have enhanced their knowledge in coaching after attending the three-day course.”

He said this would also give coaches to follow the new Fiji FA football philosophy.

“We want all teams to have the same football philosophy and these coaches will implement all they have learned from here in their respective district teams which will see competitive women’s football competition this year,” said Dutt.

“It is not only about the players, but it’s also about the education level of the coaches as well which is very important.”

One of the participants, Brian Singh of Suva, said he had broadened his knowledge in the three-days course.

“I have learned a lot from the theory and practical sessions and this will help me coach the team with more broaden knowledge now,” said Singh.

Singh is confident he will move ahead in coaching.

“ My aim is to now join Suva FC and get more knowledge with coach Babs Khan and help my district prosper, “said Singh

Shivnesh Chandra of Lami said he had gained a lot from the course.

“I have learned a lot from these three days course and some of the things have made me realise that how important is coaching a team,”

“I have taken the responsibility to coach Lami side now and this course has motivated me and I am equipped with the new methodology which I am sure will help me better prepare my team in next season,”

“The best thing I have learned is planning ahead and making session plan which will be useful during pieces of training, “said Chandra

The course was held at Fiji FA Academy in Vatuwaqa from last Friday to Sunday.
