CHELSEA slipped up in the race to secure Champions League football after falling to a 3-2 defeat at West Ham.
And fans pointed the finger at the Blues new sponsors Three for jinxing them before kick-off.
Chelsea’s £200million sponsorship deal with Yokohama Tyres had finished by the end of June.
This meant that Frank Lampard’s side wore their new-look 2020-21 season strip for their clash against the Hammers at the London Stadium.
But it was far from an ideal first outing as Chelsea slipped to a 3-2 defeat despite taking the lead on Wednesday.
And many fans were particularly unhappy with their new sponsors who had tweeted ahead of kick-off: “We hear that ‘Three is a magic number.”
After the match, West Ham’s three goals were not only the spooky coincidence surrounding Chelsea’s new cursed number.
One fan pointed out that three was also “how many minutes it took for Marcos Alonso to track back.”
Others made reference to Bayern Munich’s 3-0 win over Chelsea in their Champions League first-leg clash.
Former Blues boss Jose Mourinho’s famous ‘three titles, respect’ rant even got brought into it.
While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hailed for his three wins over Lampard as Manchester United manager this season.
Chelsea will get the chance to give their new sponsors a winning home debut when they face Watford at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Blues remain in fourth, just two points ahead of United and Wolves after missing the chance to leapfrog Leicester into third.
