The debate as to whether AFC Wimbledon are a different club to the Wimbledon lost to Football Association ineptitude 20 years ago could run for the duration of tonight’s blog.
However, the history books are showing that tonight’s fixture is a first meeting between Arsenal and AFC Wimbledon and, for the visitors, that spells trouble.
And that’s because the Gunners on the last nine occasions in which they have faced an English club for the first time, last doing so against Sutton United in the FA Cup in February 2017.
Ironically, this winning run against new opposition started with a 3-1 victory over the original Wimbledon at Highbury in January 1987.
